DIABETES NEW ZEALAND

Maya's moment of fame

We recently helped New Zealand Aviation Security write some guidance about travelling through airport security with medical equipment like continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps, which are used to help manage diabetes.

Our volunteer Maya (age 12) took a day off school to come to Wellington | Te Whanga-nui-a-Tara airport and take part in a photoshoot to show what it’s like to go through airport security if you have wearable diabetes devices.

Maya has type 1 diabetes and uses a pump as well as a CGM. Check out the photos we took on the day, and there are some videos and more photos on our social media pages too.

We are always so grateful to anyone who volunteers their time to support our mahi. If you would like to help us with future projects, please get in touch.

We all enjoyed working with AvSec on this project, and value their committment to improving the experiences of people with diabetes - and those who support people with diabetes - while travelling.
